Social Moment: Double date — meeting a friend’s new romance for the first time.

Who’s really comfortable with small talk — especially when you’re meeting a friend’s new romance? The canvas eased that pressure, giving us a way to engage without forcing the silence to be filled. Every ten minutes it rotated, each of us building on another’s beginning. It became a kind of social lubricant: passing pens, negotiating space, elaborating on ideas. Between playful moments, quiet pauses, and colorful flirtation, time slowed down — and more layers of each person surfaced, less through words and more through making.
